NEET Counseling 2024: Important Dates, Merit List, Fees, and Eligibility
NEET Counseling 2024 will be organized by the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) for admissions to medical and dental colleges across India.
According to the latest schedule, NEET UG Counseling will start on August 14, 2024. Candidates must register before the deadline to participate.
The counseling process includes four rounds: Round 1, Round 2, Mop-Up Round, and Stray Vacancy Round.
To be eligible, candidates must have passed their 10+2 or equivalent exams with core subjects in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English, and have qualified in the NEET 2024 Exam.
NEET Counseling is divided into two main parts. The first part handles admissions for 15% of All India Quota seats for MBBS/BDS in state colleges (excluding J&K unless they contribute seats), 100% of MBBS/BDS seats at BHU, AIIMS across India, JIPMER (Puducherry/Karaikal), AMU, and 15% of IP quota seats at ESIC.
It also covers 85% of state quota seats at DU/I.P University (VMMC/ABVIMS/ESIC Dental) and 100% of the Faculty of Dentistry at Jamia Millia Islamia, including a 5% internal quota for Jamia students.
This part of the counseling is conducted by the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC).
The second part of the counseling is managed by state authorities, who handle 85% of the remaining medical and dental seats. Each state sets its own eligibility criteria, registration fees, and other rules.
This counseling process is crucial as it connects aspiring doctors and dentists to their desired colleges, ensuring that deserving candidates are admitted based on their qualifications and preferences.

NEET Counseling 2024 Process for 15% All India Quota (AIQ)
NEET Counseling 2024 involves several key steps: Registration, Choice Filling, Choice Locking, Seat Allotment, Counseling Rounds, Upgradation, and Reporting to Colleges.
These steps are crucial to ensure a smooth process and help you secure admission to your desired medical college.
By following these steps carefully, you can make your dream of becoming a medical professional a reality.
Here’s a brief overview of the steps to follow during the counseling process:
Step 1: Registration
- The first step in the counseling process is to register. Go to the official website of the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) and find the link labeled ‘UG Counseling Registrations.’ Click on it to begin.
- Next, carefully fill out the registration form with your personal, academic, and other important details. After completing the form, proceed to the payment section and pay the registration fee using a debit card or UPI.
- Once the payment is made, you’ll be able to preview your registration. Check all the details to ensure they are correct. If everything looks good, confirm by clicking ‘Okay.’ It’s a good idea to print out or download a PDF of the registration for future reference.
- After completing the registration, log out and move on to the choice-filling section.
Step 2: Choice Filling
- After registering, the next step is “Choice Filling.” Here, you can select the medical and dental colleges you prefer, making sure to choose the best options for your medical career.
- To begin, log in again using the details you provided during registration. Once logged in, you can start selecting your preferred colleges. There is no limit to the number of choices you can make, so feel free to pick as many colleges as you like.
- After completing your choices, proceed to the “Choice Locking” section.
Step 3: Choice Locking
- After selecting your preferred colleges, proceed to the “Choice Locking” section. This step ensures that the colleges you’ve chosen will be considered in the first round of NEET Counseling.
- Carefully review your selections, then lock in your choices. Remember, once your choices are locked, you won’t be able to change them until the next round of counseling, so make sure you’re satisfied with your selection before locking them.
Step 4: Rounds of Counseling
- NEET Counseling for medical and dental admissions takes place in four rounds. Each round follows a similar process, including registration (only needed for the first round; subsequent rounds will automatically consider you), choice filling and locking, seat allotment, result declaration, document verification, and reporting to the allotted colleges.

NEET Counseling 2024: Understanding the Merit List
The NEET merit list is like a giant leaderboard based on your NEET exam score. It determines your rank and the chances of getting called for counseling, where you’ll be matched with medical colleges. Here’s how it works:
Ranks and Responsibilities:
- NTA: Releases the All India Rank (AIR) list for 15% of medical seats under the All India Quota (AIQ).
- State Authorities: Release separate merit lists for 85% of state quota seats and all private colleges within their state.
- DGHS: Manages counseling for AIQ, deemed universities, and some other institutes using the NTA list.
- State Counseling Authorities: Use their state merit list to assign seats to state quota and private colleges.
This simplified process ensures you know what to expect and how to navigate NEET Counseling 2024 efficiently!
